Retatrutide trials and access
Clinical trials, expanded access, and their requirements.
Retatrutide is investigational. It is not sold by any pharmacy, it cannot be compounded, and no telehealth service can prescribe it. Access information below includes clinical trials, expanded access, and the approval timeline, with links to Lilly and ClinicalTrials.gov.
The three routes
- Route 1
Join a clinical trial
Free drug under medical monitoring, with a placebo arm in most studies. Enrollment for most of the Phase 3 program has closed; the live list below shows what is still open.

Ask about expanded access
Since August 3, 2026, a clinician can request retatrutide from Lilly for an adult with refractory obesity and a BMI of at least 35 kg/m², at least two serious complications, and no eligible trial. Case by case, not guaranteed.
Read the criteria → - Route 3
Wait for approval
Lilly plans to file in the first quarter of 2027. A standard review takes about ten months, so the first decision lands in late 2027 or early 2028, followed by pricing and coverage.

Options that do not provide access
Products sold as retatrutide are not the pharmaceutical product supplied in the trials.
Online vials
Sold as “research use only”. Unverified purity and amount, no medical oversight, and the FDA is issuing warning letters to sellers that name retatrutide.

Compounders may only copy approved drugs. The July 2026 advisory vote covered six other peptides, and it changes nothing until a final rule.

Platforms can prescribe approved GLP-1 drugs such as tirzepatide and semaglutide today. None can prescribe retatrutide.
